Reminder...

There are people on the net that have nothing better to do with their time then be nasty to other people online. They post rude comments, spend hours a day talking about sites they hate so much, that they well, spend hours a day talking about them. (lame) They mock the owners and posters for their opinions and their right to free speech. They expect everyone to fit into their narrow-minded little world view or else they throw a temper tantrum.

To these people I say grow up.

Here's a bit of info people...the web is a HUGE place. If you don't like what I say here, or who I am, or what I do, or talk about, or what I look like, or the color of my hair, or whatever asinine thing you dwell on, go somewhere else. It's really, really easy. Honest. You just click the little "x" in the corner of your browser and *poof* the offending, big, mean and nasty site has disappeared.

I pay for this site. It's mine. That means I can use it for whatever the hell I want to. Don't like it if I'm bitching about something in my life? Oh fucking well. Go somewhere else. Think I'm stupid for expressing my thoughts? Too fucking bad, don't read them. Somewhere along the line, someone forgot this simple fact: Live and let live Don't like me, cool, fine, whatever, I don't care. This journal is NOT for you. It's for me. I'm not in it for popularity or fame or anything stupid like that. I write it because I need to write and express myself and get things out of my head sometimes. So read or don't, it doesn't matter, but don't waste my time (or yours) bitching about it.

*gets off soapbox*

PC Problems Continue
Ok, so the new(er) 80gig hard drive apparently is bad. Three days of trying to format it and install windows on it and failure everytime.

So, then Love stuck an old 20 gig in with a clean windows install and nothing else just to let me get online. Well, on a blank system without even my old drive hooked up as well, I'm getting the exact same problems. Meaning? It's got to be a hardware problem. Most likely ram. And not actually my windows being corrupted afterall. Because, new(er) motherboard, new(er) video card, new(er) sound card and one new stick of ram on a fresh install and I get the exact same problem as before? Yeah, not a virus or windows issue. Nothing else would make the system stay on but the software bomb out at literally random times across both configurations unless it's one thing that's been in both like the memory. And the memory could easily cause software crashes but not necessarily system crashes.

To help narrow down the problem, I'm on the fresh 20gig drive right now and took out one of the sticks of memory. If it happens again, I'll take out a different stick. So far though, no crashes, but since it's entirely random and I've only been at this a few minutes, I can't be sure yet. Once I find the at-fault stick of ram, I can actually hook my REAL hard drive back up and get my damned pc back again.

This has been beyond a practice in frustration, let me tell you. I just want to get back to normal and have access to my files and to do the normal things I do on a daily basis. Hopefully, I can quickly track down the faulty ram and move on from this seemingly never-ending experience.

Off to surf more to try to prompt a crash. TTFN.

Friday At the Temp Job
So it's Friday. I'm at the temp job. Have another er... hour and 40 minutes left in my day. It's going by damned slowly. I was significantly groggy when I got up this morning and my stomach wasn't exactly thrilled with me either. I ended up getting in a little late because of it. And even though I took my lunch late, the afternoon is dragging. This uncomfortable chair (made, I believe of rocks) and the awkward set-up is really killing my neck and shoulder. There's just no place for my arms to rest and so it's making my whole arm hang oddly. So far, the advil isn't helping. It's been really overcast and almost-rainy the last couple days and my fingers have been acting up. (My left hand has what I have to assume is a form of mild arthritis because under certain conditions especially rainy days, the joints in my hand ache horribly.) Overall, I guess the deary skies outside are kind of reflecting my rather blah and overall achey mood.

It's been a bad fatigue week and it's been especially hard to get up, out of bed and get through the hours here. I'm angry at myself this week too for it. I know it's not something I can control and I know I shouldn't beat myself up over things like my health which I can't control, but dammit, it just frustrates me to no end how limited I am. And how I always fail. I mean, Wednesday and Thursday I got in for just the afternoon (4.5 hours) and missed the mornings. Today, I'll put in around 6.25 hours out of eight. That's just pathetic. I mean, how hard is it truly to sit at a desk for eight hours and basically do nothing? Apparently hard enough that I still struggle to accomplish it. Even sleeping in Wednesday and Thursday and only pulling half-days, I still came home both days and feel asleep uncontrollably on the couch. I went home on lunch today and nodded off for about 15 minutes without meaning to. It's just awful. And more then a little unnatural.

A. called just a little while ago. She won't be back until Tuesday at th earliest, so I'll be back in here for another day on Monday. Hopefully. Jeez. Pending of course, if I can get out of bed to get in here that is. *sighs* It's even worse when I really need the money but I'm too sick, or ill to get in. It's just a double slap in the face then to throw away potential cash, you know? These opprotunities don't come by very often. The next time they need me is the week of Thanksgiving for example.

The pc also continues to be a source of frustration. Two nights in a row, Love has tried to format the new(er) 80gig drive for me so I can get re-set up, but it keeps bombing out on the format. My friend Rand thought it might be a partition issue but I don't know, I just know I'm beyond ready to have my computer back. I spent some time logging in to a couple of my domains accounts via webmail but it's only so useful and it does nothing for accessing all my actual data or working on things I need to work on elsewhere. Can't upload anything off my camera, or edit any of my sites or whatever. It's just irritating.

One of the guys here apparently came in this morning and he hurried inside since it was drizzling. Well, when he left to head out to lunch a couple hours later he couldn't find his keys. Turns out, not only did he leave them in the car, but he left the car running! So now, K. is going to torment him with pictures of keys and gas gauges and such all over his desk. She's just chuckling away at how (a) silly that was to do and (b) how foolish it was to tell her about it. She's known for throwing some fun pranks. (Gotta love an HR manager who has a sense of humor in a company, hu?) Too amusing.

*hums*

Well, guess that's all the babbling I have for the moment. OH! I have a freebie for the first person who can use it. But you actually need to be able to use it, ok? I got a coupon in the mail for a free full-size bottle of a liquid makeup. The problem is that it's for women of color and I'm about as pale as they get. It's seriously for dark tones of skin. You can check out the colors here. (Click "products" on the bottom, then "face" and then the "liquid" bottle. So if you're pale like me, it won't do you any good. Can anyone out there use it? You can email me - memoryanddream@gmail.com - with your snail mail addy and I'll drop it in the mail for you. First come, first serve. I only have one.

Ok, now we're done. Killed quite a bit of time on this, so I've got an hour left to go. Weee!

Thursday
So I'm back here at the temp job this afternoon. Came home yesterday and got really sick to my stomach out of nowhere. Couldn't even eat dinner. Tossed and turned all night and really felt awful. I ended up coming for the afternoon since if I managed four hours total of sleep all night, I'd be surprised. I needed to get some more rest. The day, even though it's only 4.5 hours long, is unbelievably dragging. Not sure why. I read through my LJ friends list (all 80 or so entries), commented and such, but...blah. I've got some more net nosing to do but I'm just really bored. It's very dull today. The weather's gloomy and overcast, threatening to storm but not and it's been really quiet. So it all adds up I guess to be kind of a rather dull day.

The computer's not fixed yet. Love was sick yesterday and he started to format the new drive to get it ready for me but it had some odd error and then it got late so he didn't want to fiddle with it. We'll try tonight. I just want to get back to having it again. I haven't checked my domain emails in days now and I can't imagine how many thousands of spam messages are sitting on my server. Not to mention, without the domain emails, I can't see if anyone emailed for important things like orders or inquires. Doubtful, but you know, it happens now and then. Speaking of, I should login to paypal just to see if anything posted. It won't help for inquiries but at least I can see if anything came in I need to know about. Wow. There was an order there. Dammit. It's a horn order though going to the UK. *sighs* $2 shipping doesn't cover it to the UK, so now I'm going to need to try to contact them but it's such a hassle because if they send a second payment, I get a second surcharge. My shipping page does clearly spell out the shipping rates including international ones. *sighs* Damned limitations of Paypal is that I don't know how to automatically get it to recognize the difference between US and non-US addresses.

Still need to make the pair of horns for my spooky mail swap. Like, tonight. Seeing as I need to ship it out tomorrow. Jeez. I just haven't gotten around to it. I can bring the box to the temp job though tomorrow and mail it out from here. Otherwise, I don't know how I'd make it to the post office. The whole lack of transportation thing is very annoying.

Mom found my shoes - in stock nonetheless! - yesterday, so I have them now for my bridesmaid dress. Next, I need a bra that converts to a halter-style and get it hemmed. Of course, I still owe my sister $30 for the dress and my mom $35 for the shoes. The alterations will be another $70. And it's my Nanny's 90th birthday and her party is on September 2nd. So I need to pay for dinner then, plus a card, plus a gift or something. I don't know where any of this is going to come from. Damned money. It's such a hassle. You know, they may say that money doesn't buy happiness, but poverty doesn't either. Because while it doesn't buy happiness, it buys food, puts a roof over your head and provides for creature comforts. Which all goes a long way towards happiness if you ask me.

Alrighty, well I have another hour and a half left in my day. Guess I'll go surf some more to try to pass the time. A reminder, if you tried to email me at my domain, I haven't gotten it and probably won't for another day or so. You can also reach me at my gmail instead - memoryanddream(at)gmail.com - since I can check that easily from any computer. Otherwise, I'll get back to anyone when I can.

TTFN.

Live From The Temp Job
As previously mentioned, I'm covering for A. today, tomorrow and Friday as she had a death in the family. I'm here at the temp job, nosing around the net and enjoying being able to catch up a bit on things. Darn pc. My friend Rand has an 80gig hard drive he's not using though so when I head home tonight, Love can install it for me. I think I'll put it in as my new primary and then keep my old as a secondary. I'll install all my programs fresh on the new drive and see if that helps the stability issues. Of course, it's still starting from scratch which is about the worst windows punishment there is, but...hopefully, we'll get it back up and running again soon. It's damned frustrating being without it. You don't realize just how much you use it until you can't!

In other happy - yes, you read that right, happy - news, I won not one but TWO prize packs from the full moon swap's one year anniversary raffle. Holy cow! I mean, wow! The pretty In Honor of Aphrodite hand decorated box and the handmade cloak and tarot cards in the Cloak and Card Tricks packs. Talk about an amazingly happy surprise. Luck and I just don't agree with each other normally, so this is totally thrilling.

Let's see...what else. Love's sick today. Blah. My mom wanted to get together tomorrow but I'm covering here so no go. We need to head back to one of the local shoe stores and find out about getting this pair we saw a few weeks back for my sister's wedding. The color matches absolutely perfect, but they could only get them in my size. The Maid of Honor has wider feet and they didn't make a wide in that color. So, she'll have to find something more special order, but my sister said I should go ahead and get the pair we found since they'll be cheaper and she didn't care enough that our shoes were identical. So long as they match our dresses, it's good enough for her. Anyway, mom's going to try to stop in there tomorrow for me and see if she can get them still. Hope so since they're a nice sandle in general and simple with a nice, low heel. Getting the shoes is important since we still need to hem the dresses and you can't do that until you know the height of your shoe. It's already the end of August and her wedding is October 27th so things need to get going, you know? The alterations take a few weeks generally so no one wants to get caught at the last minute. Of course, I still need to come up with the cash for all this (ouch) but...hopefully, with Halloween coming up, I can get some horn orders going and help pay for it all.

I've been really jonesing to make some new jewelry too so hopefully next week I can work on making new items and maybe jump start my sales a little. To say it's been slow right now would be an understatement. I think I've shipped two items in like two months. Ouch. I also said I'd make jewelry for my sister's wedding for the MoH and I and my mom wants a necklace too which I need to make. My mom gave me a little something for hers, but I said I'd make mine and the MoH's for free as a gift to the wedding. I still also need to come up with cash to get my sister a gift as well. I have an idea what I want to get her even though I haven't checked out her registry yet since she mentioned something that'd be good, but it's $100. I know that's not a lot of money to most people, but that's a hell of a lot for me.

Anyway, about 20 minutes left in the day. Then homeward bound and hopefully to an evening of fixing my pc. Which, while the actual fixing part isn't fun, the having a pc again will be. Heh.

TTFN.

Happy Birthday To Gracie
My pc is still farked but I couldn't let the day pass without a comment on it. The little Gracie cat turns four today. It's two years to the day since we adopted her.

(On completely unrelated note, I'll be at the temp job the remainder of this week. Their receptionist had a death in her family, so I'll be in to cover for her. While I won't be able to access my domain email, I'll be able to check the gmail - memoryanddream(at)gmail.com - and peek in on my friends lists and such. If you need to reach me, try the gmail account and I'll be able to check it tomorrow. Hopefully. I can still get my issues resolved on my own pc soon.)

Spoke Too Soon
So this is the second time I'm writing this entry. I tried writing it earlier on my own pc in notepad, but the pc crashed before I could save it. I'm now on Love's pc for the moment just to post. The news of my pc's fix and my return was premature. Sure, my hardware seems to be currently working and I'm not getting constant BSOD's, but...I'm 99% sure my windows install is totally farked.

Every bit of software I've tried to run today crashes. The machine stays on, but the program takes a nose dive. Firefox, Thunderbird, Internet Explorer, Quicktime, Paint Shop Pro - you name it, it won't work. My best guess is that the constant crashing and subsequent frying of my cpu probably screwed up windows. Bitches.

So, now, tomorrow evening, hopefully, I can use a second harddrive long enough to back up mine (with all the horrible system instability, I haven't been able to do any backups whatsoever before now since the system would shut down constantly) and wipe out my drive and do a fresh install.

I can't tell you how much I loathe having to format. I think my root canal was less painful then a windows format. It takes weeks to get everything back the way you like it, not to mention trying to find all the cd's or installs of the obscure programs you use and dealing with the flukes of driver and hardware issues.

*sighs*

So I'm offline and unavailable again. Love's monitor is totally shot and it's so blurry, I can't even bear to look at his screen. (Ouch. Ubber headache.) So I won't be using his anytime soon. I just wanted to make another post since I'm unavailable again for another day or so. Hopefully.

Damned computers.

And...We're Back
Ok, so two days, 452 emails in just one of my inboxes, a new (to me) cpu and motherboard plus a new (to me) sound card and video card and here I am. I say "new to me" because I get parts third. (Though free.) Generally, it's a friend first, then Love upgrades and I get Love's old stuff. I'm low man on the totem pole. (I'm runing an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ 1.53 GHz with 768 MB ram for example. Not exactly "new" to anyone but myself.)

Anyway, my system got so unstable it wouldn't stay on, then it wouldn't turn on. My processor had burnt itself up and possibly the board too. The power supply fan was clogged with cat fur and I guess it was more then a wee bit dusty in the case. Not like it's my fault, jeez. I'm not a shedding cat. *chuckles*

Had some oddness with Firefox crashing but I reinstalled it and *crosses fingers* it seems stable now. I've got a lot of catching up to do but looks like everything's back up. Yeah!

I'm such a junkie for my pc, I swear. Hard to believe that it's only really the last 10-12 years or so that computers have been a common item for me and only about eight years that I've actually had one of my own on a daily basis. I interacted with them in small ways as a kid - Oregon Trail for example! - but it wasn't really until high school that I had any experience with the web (on a 2400 baud modem at a friend's house.) It's strange to think how much I use and love my computer when I didn't grow up with them in my life. The Gen Y'ers have never known life without computers, but us Gen X'ers, well...it's a different story. And yet, here I am, happy to be back after two days absence. How sad is that?

Hope everyone had a nice weekend.
