Reminder...

There are people on the net that have nothing better to do with their time then be nasty to other people online. They post rude comments, spend hours a day talking about sites they hate so much, that they well, spend hours a day talking about them. (lame) They mock the owners and posters for their opinions and their right to free speech. They expect everyone to fit into their narrow-minded little world view or else they throw a temper tantrum.

To these people I say grow up.

Here's a bit of info people...the web is a HUGE place. If you don't like what I say here, or who I am, or what I do, or talk about, or what I look like, or the color of my hair, or whatever asinine thing you dwell on, go somewhere else. It's really, really easy. Honest. You just click the little "x" in the corner of your browser and *poof* the offending, big, mean and nasty site has disappeared.

I pay for this site. It's mine. That means I can use it for whatever the hell I want to. Don't like it if I'm bitching about something in my life? Oh fucking well. Go somewhere else. Think I'm stupid for expressing my thoughts? Too fucking bad, don't read them. Somewhere along the line, someone forgot this simple fact: Live and let live Don't like me, cool, fine, whatever, I don't care. This journal is NOT for you. It's for me. I'm not in it for popularity or fame or anything stupid like that. I write it because I need to write and express myself and get things out of my head sometimes. So read or don't, it doesn't matter, but don't waste my time (or yours) bitching about it.

*gets off soapbox*

So That's Why They Call It A Breaker
Remember how I mentioned the bad thunderstorm earlier today? Well, like all storms, it meant the power flickered on and off a few times. (The problem with having sand for ground soil and being the lightning capital of the country is that nothing grounds well and thunderstorms = power outages and brownouts.) Didn't think anything of it.

Until Love gets home and says it's hot in here. And you know, he's right. I hadn't really noticed because normally during the day, I put the a/c up so it doesn't run as much. But once he said it, he was right. It was really hot. The air had been running pretty much non-stop for a couple solid hours and the thermostat was reading about 90F. We opened the panel up and it wasn't frozen over so we put in an emergency (after-hours) maintence call. I thought maybe we had run out of coolant or something.

Nope, turns out the a/c unit has two circuit breakers. One inside and one for the pump outside. The one inside was fine - it was running and running and running. But apparently, the one for the pump outside had triggered. Boom. No pump. No cool air. Turn it off, turn it back on and volia! We have cool air again.

Apparently I'm about person #8 to have called with this exact same issue. We've never had this particular issue with our unit before so I didn't even know to check the panel. Good news is that it'll cool down in here now. Bad news is that the unit's been running for, oh, three hours or so basically non-stop which will make a hell of a fun power bill. (Which already literally doubles in the summer months as it is.)

But now I know why they call it a breaker. When it goes, you're power is definitely broken!

Ironic Weather
So today - June 1st - marks the official start of the 2006 Atlantic Hurricane season. It runs through November 30th. According to the National Hurricane Center, we can expect a scary active year:
The outlook calls for a very active 2006 season, with 13-16 named storms, 8-10 hurricanes, and 4-6 major hurricanes.

So is it ironic that it stormed this afternoon? Hard rain and a ton of lightning? Keep in mind, it's literally rained about three times so far this year before today. (No, really. We're in a major drought right now.)
...the spring months will have a total of 2.46 inches, or 5.03 below average rainfall, making this the driest spring since 2001, when Florida was in the third year of a drought.

With soaring temperatures and no rain, wildfire danger remains high. A measurement of soil moisture and fire potential is near the top of the scale for nearly the entire Florida peninsula.

In an index on which zero means saturated and 800 equals desert, the numbers for the peninsula are 500 to 700, except for in Southeast Florida.

So...a good rainy day? Some way to start the season off, eh?

Still though, it was nice to hear the rain again. Even though poor Gracie was really freaking out over the thunder. (Aw...poor kitty.) Like I said, it's been a loooong time since we've had rain - poor thing probably didn't remember what those loud crashes, booms and rumbles were!

Randomness
Today I borrowed my friend Rand's Jeep and had a ton of errands to run. Like 2.5 hours of non-stop driving from one place to another. Return the overdue library books, hit the post office to return an item I ordered for Full Moon Swaps, drop of a dvd to blockbuster, return something to CVS, pick up my vitamins, return a pair of jeans to JCPenny that didn't fit Love, return the extra cat food to the pet food store since the girls like the new brand instead - oh and then get Rand at the end of the day so he could, you know, get home from work, AND then pick up dinner. Jeez! All afternoon I was running around! And not even the good kind where you lazily stroll and browse in different stores. Nope. The rush in, rush out, get the chores done kind of shopping.

Good news is that it's all done AND that I was able to bring my new-to-me refurbed iPod - who, I might have mentioned, I named this time: Persephone - and she worked like a charm. I listened to her for a few hours yesterday afternoon while cleaning the apartment, did NOT charge it last night and listened to it in the car for another couple hours today. So far, so good. The battery is definitely holding a charge and it's giving me multiple hours of playtime. These are Very Good Things. Now I just need to sell some jewelry! to put the money for the repair back into savings. Actually, I have a few things to update AND I bought some more clay and I'm going to try to make another rune set to possibly add it on the site as another thing to sell. Oh! And, I need to finish up a faerie box I started like two months ago and I'll add that too. So look for some new items really soon on the site - including all-new product offerings!

I'm obsessed with this Fossil bag I saw at Macy's a few months ago. Damned thing won't go on sale and there's no way I am willing to spend $118 on it. Bah. Even with a $50 gift card I have for Macy's burning a hole in my wallet, I just can't bring myself to justify spending near $70 on it. Jeez. Even when I did have a job I couldn't justify it. And now that I don't, well, it's really absurdly out of the picture. For some damned reason though, I can't get the damned thing out of my head. It's been like months now too! AND I got a really nice purse that I love from my mom for my birthday. So it's not like I need one or anything. (Yeah for clearance. We found the one she got me - this awesome dark teal leather bag from Liz marked down to $35 a couple months ago and she put it aside for my birthday.) Ever have those stupid obsessions though? Bah and double bah again.

Speaking of birthdays, it's funny how before your birthday, people are asking you what you want. And you can't think of things to tell them. So you end up telling people the same things. And then, it seems like everyone ends up all picking one item off the list. Like, I got two copies of Widdershins and a duplicate of the Back to the Future trilogy dvd set. But, for example, despite the fact when asked, I listed gift certificate to The Coconut Hut to everyone, it's one thing that I didn't get - let alone duplicates! It's just amusing since I've been hitting their website for like a year now and ever since Edo got me a pineapple slices body spray from them last year, I've been drooling over all their yummy scents. I just never can justify spending the cash on getting something for myself. How does that work? Surely that's not just me. You spend month after month thinking one of these days you're going to get yourself something - but then for whatever reason, you just can't convince yourself to click the "place order" button. Even though you'll spend the same amount on something else you don't actually want as much. I don't know why it always seems to happen but it does. At least to me anyway. There are some things I guess I have a hard time justifying the purchase of. Perhaps it seems too frivolous or something. Or maybe it's just harder for me to follow through with buying something online. Even when I know I like it. Even if I would buy it if it were in a store. It's so odd.

Anyway, I missed a good photo opprotunity today. Well, maybe not good so much as amusing. There was this big semi pulling out of a parking lot. A commercial transport of some sort. The truck proclaimed that the company was "Yellow." But the signage, logo and details on the truck were all in bright orange. Orange? A big logo that says "Yellow" in orange? Just one of those double-take moments that made me chuckle.

*hums*

I'm waiting on a book I ordered to arrive for my swap. I keep checking the mail but it's not here yet. I'm just being impatient probably. It was sent the 25th and Monday of course there was no mail. Still though, it's annoying me because I want to make sure it's good so I know I'm done with my swap. Unlike the book I had to return today that was incomplete and did me no good without it's accompanying tea cup. Jeez. If the NAME of the item says, "Tea Cup, Saucer and Illustrated Book" then um..you know, shouldn't you include said tea cup and saucer? The seller was all, "I didn't know there was supposed to be anything else." So...I want to make sure this one arrives and is acceptable so I can stop worrying and get on with the knowing my swap it done. I'm quite proud of how it turned out and how I only spent $40ish on it. Which sounds like a lot but considering I was originally thinking I'd need to spend $25 on ONE item, I feel I've done well.

Blah! Did I mention the randomness? Damn, this must be boring. The good news is that I think I've babbled myself out. So I'll close here.

Ta.

Memorial Weekend Recap
It was a nice, long weekend.

Saturday we went to see X3: The Last Stand. (spoiler free) I was entertained. I'm not sure why so many people hated it with such passion. I didn't think it was the best film ever made, but it certainly wasn't the worst and I was entertained through the whole thing, so to me, it was a success. If a movie keeps my attention, well, what else do you want really? *shrugs* I guess a lot of people were unhappy with the resolution of several characters but I don't really find it nearly so bothersome. I know that nothing is ever forever in the X-Men universe and that things which appear to be concluded rarely are. It could have been longer, sure. And it could have had more plot to it but eh. I enjoyed the time spent in the theater.

Afterwards, we hit a cool import store and a pagan bookstore and I got a few items for my June Full Moon Swap. Always fun. Especially when I found just what I wanted and it wasn't a lot of money! I had been looking for things on ebay and online but it was all too expensive. So I was thrilled to spend a significantly smaller amount and still put together what I wanted! Yeah for bargin shopping. I get such a glee for a good deal, or good sale.

Sunday Love and I and our friend Rand went up to my mom's for a BBQ. My sister and Nanny and all were there and it turned out to be a nice day. We had chicken and burgers, corn, fruit and such. Spent the afternoon there and just sat around, chatting.

Afterwards, we came back to the apartment and watched "Last Holiday" on dvd which was entertaining though mindless. All-in-all, a nice day.

Monday we hit the fancy mall in the area because it has an apple store. Love decided for me that I was going to exchange my iPod through the battery replacement program. I didn't want to do it because it's expensive ($70 total including tax!!) and because we are really broke right now. He took the money out of the cash we're saving for a downpayment on a car. We need as much as possible since we can't get a loan at all, and we're going to have to end up doing a buy-here/pay-here type place. The more down you can put, the less you have to finance. He felt bad it broke and knew it'd be a long time before we'd have the cash to do it, so he just said screw it let's fix your iPod. I still feel guilty about it but I love that he wasn't going to take no for an answer. He's such a dear.

I decided to name this one. The last one I never named. *chuckles*

What happens is that you get an entirely different unit. It's factory refurbed so it's empty and you need to re-install all your music and such onto it. Well, I get it home and I plug it in and nothing happens. Windows recognizes that I plugged something in but iTunes wouldn't see it. At all. We tried it on Love's and same thing. Nada. So I called the store. (Note for anyone dealing with something similar: do NOT press "1" for support. That transfers you to the support desk at apple corp, NOT the in-store "genius bar" repair department. I had to call back and this time, I opted for "5" which was "for all other questions" and I was able to reach a real person in the physical store.) Talked to one girl who was mostly clueless for about ten minutes before some guy answered. I was on the phone for another half hour or so working through the problem.

Turns out that the iPod, though it had the software on it, wasn't formatted. It wasn't Mac or Windows formatted. So iTunes couldn't find it because the software wasn't correctly completed. We downloaded the installer, installed it, rebooted, plugged in the ipod, did a factory restore and then, finally, iTunes found it and I started my lengthy process of getting all my music on the new unit. I have about 7 gigs on mine. And only a USB 1.0 connection. No firewire, no USB 2.0 connection. So, I plugged it in and let it go to town. Took basically all evening yesterday. I think it was done around 11pm or so. The good news is that it's working now and it's basically a new unit.

I read online about the do-it-yourself battery replacement and watched the videos and such, but...for like $40ish bucks to do it yourself, it looked damned tricky. The battery is GLUED in the unit and it's apparently quite easy to break your logic board if you're not careful. I really didn't feel comfortable enough doing it myself especially since if I would have broken it, I would have voided my warrenty and been unable to participate in the battery exchange program.

Also on Sunday, while I was at the mall waiting for my appointment to talk to the "genius bar" (apple support techs), I used my Build-a-Bear gift card. (The gift card was a birthday present from my friend Rand.) Took me forever to figure out what I wanted. There's different types of bears and animals and a ton of different cloths and such. I couldn't figure out what I wanted. I had my eye on the giraffe right from the start but I didn't think I could find any good clothes for him since he's 4-footed instead of only two. Everything kind of looked awkward. But I liked him best and in the end, I found a cute outfit for him and ended up taking a giraffe home.

Isn't he cute?

It ended up being perfect because I spent over an hour working on him - a fun process I might add! - and got back about ten minutes late for my "approximate" scheduled apple appointment. But when I walked in the store, they called my name just at that moment. Bingo!

So, had BBQ with my family, got a replacement ipod, used my gift card to get my cute giraffe and even caught a movie this weekend. That's a hell of an exciting time for me. (No really. I'm not being sarcastic. It's a lot of activity!)

Now, who wants to buy some jewelry or horns so I can replace the cash for the iPod back into the car savings? No, really. *laughs* Go look and buy!

Alright well this apartment is a dive. And it won't clean itself. So I better get on it. Ta for now. (And now I can listen to my ipod while I clean. Weee!)

Edit: Oh yeah. It was also psychotically hot yesterday. Like record-breaking hot:

Yes, that's right. 96F yesterday. (35.5C)

Aren't you glad you don't live in Florida?

R.I.P.
It's official. My iPod is dead. The battery is gone.

After dealing with the discharge issues for a couple weeks now - fully charged battery would deplete itself within a matter of a couple days just sitting on the counter - listening to a 28-minute podscast yesterday emptied the full charged battery completely.

I am so sad over this. I love my iPod so much. The only reason I was able to get one was becaues I got it for free. Now it's dead and there's no way I'll have $300 pretty much ever for a replacement.

I seriously want to cry.
