Reminder...

There are people on the net that have nothing better to do with their time then be nasty to other people online. They post rude comments, spend hours a day talking about sites they hate so much, that they well, spend hours a day talking about them. (lame) They mock the owners and posters for their opinions and their right to free speech. They expect everyone to fit into their narrow-minded little world view or else they throw a temper tantrum.

To these people I say grow up.

Here's a bit of info people...the web is a HUGE place. If you don't like what I say here, or who I am, or what I do, or talk about, or what I look like, or the color of my hair, or whatever asinine thing you dwell on, go somewhere else. It's really, really easy. Honest. You just click the little "x" in the corner of your browser and *poof* the offending, big, mean and nasty site has disappeared.

I pay for this site. It's mine. That means I can use it for whatever the hell I want to. Don't like it if I'm bitching about something in my life? Oh fucking well. Go somewhere else. Think I'm stupid for expressing my thoughts? Too fucking bad, don't read them. Somewhere along the line, someone forgot this simple fact: Live and let live Don't like me, cool, fine, whatever, I don't care. This journal is NOT for you. It's for me. I'm not in it for popularity or fame or anything stupid like that. I write it because I need to write and express myself and get things out of my head sometimes. So read or don't, it doesn't matter, but don't waste my time (or yours) bitching about it.

*gets off soapbox*

Photography Experiments
The other day I was playing with my camera and even after a year, discovered something new. (Not bad for a little sub-compact point-and-shoot if I do say so myself!) So I was experimenting with the plants on my balcony. Texture, focus, that kind of thing. I think they came out pretty neat. Here's some [not so small] cropped thumbnails as a teaser. I wanted to show some of the texture that gets lost in the resizing for the web. The rest of the photos and the full size images can be found listed on the photo page or directly here.

Full images and uncropped version plus more are here

Hope you enjoy! :)

Random Observation
What's wrong with this bottle of Head and Shoulders?

If it's supposed to prevent dandruff, shouldn't the bottle say "anti-dandruff shampoo" instead? I mean, you wouldn't buy something marked "perspirant" to help you keep from sweating, right?

Recap
It's been awhile since I've written anything. (Last night's plea for help on behalf of another notwithstanding.) We didn't really do much this weekend in the way of going anywhere or actually doing something so let's see what I can recall of the weekend.

Friday - My last day at the temp job. Love and I hung out with our friend Rand in the evening and finished season seven dvd of Stargate SG-1. Unfortunately, season eight doesn't come out until October 4th and of course, season nine is airing right now. So we're behind.

Saturday - We had to run a few errands though we didn't want to run around too much what with gas being what it is. (i.e. expensive) But we hit the pet store to get the girls some food and Rand brought home a kitten. Yeah I know, funny right? Well, he has a sweet (and scaredy) tabby kitty who's around six or seven years old. And she's really lonely. So he's been looking for about a year every weekend when we hit the pet store for a friend for her. Saturday, he was won over by this cuteness:

The photos just don't do her justice. She looks like a little snow leopard. She still doesn't have a name yet so we've just been referring to her as "the snow leopard kitty" for the moment. Heh. She's tiny. She's about 10-weeks old and just the most darling little thing you've ever seen. I hung out with Rand Saturday evening for a few hours playing with the kitten. (I haven't had a kitten myself in over 15 years - the last time I had a kitten was when we found Kush-ka and that was back in 1990! I adopted both Mika and Gracie full-grown.) Love was supposed to be playing poker with some friends at work all night but... *coughs* he ended up going out first. So it was a much shorter evening then planned. (Think done before 9pm.)

Sunday - Um...what did we do Sunday? I don't know. Nothing of consequence. I don't even remember if we really left the apartment for any reason. How boring is that?

Monday - We went over to Rand's so I could play with the kitten. I brought over Back to the Future to watch because I'd been jonsing to see it. (Love that trilogy.) We had some hamburgers on his grill. And called it an early evening since Love had to get back to work Tuesday.

Tuesday - Hung out with my mom for the day. Hadn't done that in weeks because of the temp job. So she was happy. Went and visited my Nanny for a little bit too. (My Nanny is my maternal grandmother but no one calls her "grandmother" everyone calls her Nanny.)

Today - Is the first day since the temp job ended that I'm here by myself and have no plans for the day. I slept in and have just been nosing around the net a little. It's going on 2pm but it feels like I've been up for more hours then that. Seems like it should be later in the day already.

It's also FTD Good Neighbor Day and you can get a free bouquet of flowers from participating florists. So if there's one in your area, stop in and get some free flowers.

Our air conditioner is making noise lately. The maintenence guy came out on Friday to look at it. It's knocking and it sounds like something's rattling or banging around in the pipes. He couldn't find anything wrong with it. So of course, over the weekend, it starts again. And it was going non-stop all evening and night. Now it stopped making the noise again but I put in a call to the office anyway. It's realy irritating. Not that they'll do anything about it. They're so pathetic about responding to maintenence requests. (At all, let alone in a timely fashion.)

So...that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Nothing going on here really. Boring actually. It stinks that we couldn't, you know, do something for the holiday weekend. (Hell, we didn't even go see a movie or anything.) Without money or a car that can drive any distance though, it makes for a depressing weekend.

Guess that's all for now.

A Personal Request for Help
I know there are millions of people that need help, but right now, I'm putting out a call for just one of them. If anyone can help, please let me know.

There's a very nice lady named Sarya. She's very good friends with a dear friend of mine, Dawna. Sarya lives in Meterie, Louisiana. She was able to get out and is currently safe in a motel in Baton Rouge. Sadly, that's not the end of the story. Her and seven family members (including her autistic son) are living in a one-bed motel room with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

From Dawna:
She has a FEMA number and is waiting on word from FEMA for assistance. However, she cannot get through to the Red Cross. They left Metairie with the clothes on their backs, the furbabies and NOTHING else.

This is where the call for help comes into play. Again, from Dawna:
She has NO transportation to go back and get her precious few things that she wants to retrieve and the window for going back to Jefferson Parish is closing FRIDAY. If you have ANY way of getting her a truck or transportation to go back and get some clothes and the few precious family photos she wants to retrieve, PLEASE contact me dawna at livejournal.com so I can give you information on how to contact her.

What she needs is someone - anyone - in the area that can get into her apartment for her and retrieve some of her stuff. So I'm hoping that by helping put out the call someone who's in the area (or in driving distance) can offer a little of their time and help. My friend Dawna is in Ohio and while I'm in Florida, my car would never make the ten-hour drive to LA.

I know there's so many people in this same situtation but if anyone can help or knows someone who can, please, your help is desperately needed.

I can't even imagine what it must be like for her. I can't even wrap my head around how devistating it would be. I just hope someone can help and I heop something can be salvaged from all of this. Hell, she doesn't even know the state of her apartment or what (if anything) is even salvagable to start with.

This entry details the situation. dawna(at)livejournal.com is dawna's email address. If you could please contact her at one of the two places if you can help, we'd all greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
