Even though they generally try to be vauge so that they apply to everyone, there comes times when even the most banal horoscope makes you blink a few times and go, Hu? Take mine for today:
Sat Jun. 21, 2003 by Astrocenter.com
You did the right thing by putting off those important decisions, dear Taurus, and not giving in to the pressure put upon you.
Decission? Important? Who are you talking to?

You know very well that sometimes it's important just to do nothing, to relax and to rest for the busy times ahead.
Um, I sit on my butt in my apartment nigh near every day and do nothing. How's that a change of pace for me?

Today you will feel refreshed and ready to tackle the world.
No I don't. I'm bored and I didn't even feel like tackling blow-drying my hair today.

You see your problems from a different point of view, and you are much more optimistic about things.
Like hell I am. Please. Me? Optimistic? You obviously are talking about someone else

Now, you can finally take a calm look at the situation...
What situation? In the mass of oh-so-exciting People's-Court watching, I guess I missed something.

Yeah, so not so much then. What do I expect though. I mean, it is from Yahoo afterall.

More rain. Sheesh. Not much of an impressive Solstice with all this rainy day action. Oh well.

Blessed Midsummer / Summer Solstice!

Tonight, I'm hoping to perhaps to out to the beach since I've not been out in a long time and it is the Solstice. But, if it's still raining tonight, I probably won't be able to. Hrm.

Today, my Love's gone helping our friend strip and recoat some floor. He's got the car, so I'm stuck here unable to leave and nothing to do on a Saturday. Joy.

Tomorrow, my Love's gonna be helping our friend Rand empty out his storage unit and get it in the new house.

Yesterday, Rand and I worked for a couple hours removing the ugly-ass pink wallpaper from the master bathroom. I think I still have wallpaper grit in my eye. *lol* I could call him I suppose and go over and help again today, but I need to shower and such first and maybe by then my Love will be home. Not sure.

Boring day thus far. I hate boring weekends. My weekdays are boring enough as it is and the weekends are the only time I EVER get to leave the house, so dammit, I hate being stuck here doing nothing. Blah.

Yet another rainy day today. This is unheard of. We really never get this much rain, nonstop like this, for so many days in a row. At this point, the whole area's dealing with flooding.

My sister bailed out on coming down with my mom and my mom didn't really want to come down just herself, so we're apparently going to try again the beginning of next week. *lol* Instead, my friend Rand has the day off and he gave me a call to see if I wanted to hang out and help out with the new house, getting the old wallpaper down and getting it ready for Sunday when he unloads his storage unit. He's on his way over now.

Someone yesterday was apparently looking for my shoes. I don't know why. The google search was giveneyestosee.com shoes. Little weird, but here ya go. This is my shoe rack by the door in all it's messy splendor.

*shrugs* Whatever floats your boat.

Alright, well Rand showed up and is waiting on me, so I'm out. Ta for now.

Another rainy day. Reminds me that it's still technically Spring. Though, my word, Summer Solstice is coming quickly! (Just two short days from now.) I can't believe it's the end of June already. Some days it seems life is stuck on fast-forward and I've lost the remote control.

I heard a bad joke today, thought I'd share. If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring? Pilgrims! *groans* (Told you it was bad)

Let's see... my mom was going to come over today to hang out, and I stayed up until 4:30am working on two necklaces for my sister. (This way, my mom could take them back with her and give them to my sis who lives up by her.) Turns out my mom wasn't feeling good and ended up getting her vertigo again. Probably because of the changes in the air pressure with all this rain (yesterday and again all day today). She had taken her anti-vert pill last night, but it leaves her really loopy and groggy and she can't drive. It was still bothering her today, so she wisely chose to stay home. She may end up coming by tomorrow instead. My sister apparently has off tomorrow as well so she may end up coming over with my mom. We'll see what happens. I know my sister is going to be annoyed with one of the necklaces I made for her. It ended up being longer then she requested, but I had already strung it twice and at that point, I didn't care and didn't feel like unstringing it again and altering it. If she doesn't like it, I'll sell it or something.

Speaking of selling necklaces, my mom was talking to me today about some local fair/show thingy they're having at the park by her two Saturdays from now. You can get a booth for $25 and she did so. She wants to try to sell the rest of her silver jewelry that we didn't sell on Ebay and she thought maybe I could sell some of my beaded stuff. So I need to work on some of that and see what happens. It's in the afternoon from 12pm-4pm, so I guess I'll go with her and maybe try to see if anyone wants something of mine. I've never really sold my stuff as of yet, so it's kinda scary to think of being out there, worrying if people like it and hoping I priced it alright (cheap enough for them to buy it, but not so cheap that I lose money). Oh well, I'm trying to be casual about it, but I'm kinda excited. I might actually sell something.

Think that's about it for now. Gonna go brave the rain to check my mail. Didn't got yesterday because of all the rain, but I just can't wait another day and besides, I have umbrellas and I don't melt. :) ttfn.

So today, it rains. It's been pretty consistant this rain - most of the morning and into the afternoon, the sky continues to give forth more rain. Thunder rumbles across the sky as bright bolts of our infamous lightning touches down. Normally, we don't get rain all day here, especially not in the summer months. Normally, we get ten minutes of rain here and there that leaves no trace of it's passing moments after it's done. Sometimes, it's just nice to see the rain - real rain - fall all day and hear the grumbles of the thunder.

In other news, a few days ago I made a purchase to replace my lost earcuff. I had that thing for about two years now and had bought it at the local Renn Faire. I loved it. Sterling etched in complex and lovely scroll work, I wore it all the time. When I went a few weekends ago to use my giftcard at Nordstrom's (a birthday present from my friend's mother), I lost it while trying on clothes. I was heartbroken. I looked on ebay and came across some that I liked. There was nothing to be seen that was the same as what I had lost - I could not find any that were etched the way my lost one was - but I did find two I liked. They were about $10 total including shipping whereas I believe I spent about $15 for my one. Both sterling, they seemed like a good deal and I ended up getting them both. They arrived yesterday and they really were amazingly nice. Even nicer then in the pics:

Because they were so nice and because the seller was so quick (both in email and in shipping), I wanted to recommend them here for anyone else interested in such jewelry. My experience with the seller was perfect and the items were just lovely. I don't know them and they don't know I'm doing this, but I thought it would be a nice way to recommend someone I found to be reliable in a sometimes sketchy subject.

They apparently also sell things from their website which I've not really been through, but I thought I'd provide in case some people are interested, but don't use ebay. (whyever not? *lol*)

That's about that for now.

Weird old memory... I'm sitting on the couch, watching tv and a commercial comes on for Universal Studios. They're talking about these two new rides (Shrek 4-D and Jimmy Neutron) and I remember that I had heard Kongfrontation (the King Kong ride that opened the park in 1990) had closed. So it got me thinking, what else closed?

Apparently, the Shrek ride took over for the Hitchcock one; a pitty, that was really interesting and had neat interactive productions on how the effects were done, including audience participation. It was there that I learned he used chocolate syrup for the famous Psycho shower scene in lieu of blood as it showed up better on film in black-and-white. The other new ride based on some Dexter's Laboratory rip-off, "Jimmy Neutron" replaces the Hanna Barbara ride. This is one that could definatly go without too much being missed. It was a very sloppy and poorly done watch-the-screen-while-we-move-your-seats kinda thing. Really bad to be honest. The only fun part was the sets that you could take pictures on. (There's a photo somewhere around here of me and a friend on a full-size version of the Flintstones' car).

Everything still seems to be mum's the word on what exactly is taking over Kong's massive soundstage. Rumors fly of a rollercoaster type ride based on The Mummy or The Scorpian King but no official word. I remember riding Kong - several times over the years in fact. The ride itself was a lot less stellar then it's marketing. Man, I remember those billboards all along I-4 though, which had a HUGE Kong destroying the sign or roaring in anger. They really hyped that ride and it really had a distinct impression on what Universal Studios was all about back then. All these old movie-based rides and movie-history attractions. It all fit in with their themed areas - like Kong being in the New York part - and it all just kinda worked. It was neat.

I remember the first time we went to ride Kong. It was still pretty new - the whole park was - and the lines were insane. We kept walking past throughout the day and the line was way outside the building, wrapping around on itself the length of the sidewalk. (The facade of the building was like an old NY theater.) When the line finally got inside, we thought for sure that we would have a quick wait. Little did we know that even inside the building, there was something like two hours of wait time to be had.

I have to give them credit though, the ride wait line was some of the most detailed and creatively done I've ever seen. It was all set up like a New York subway - complete with posters for movies and tv's broadcasting emergancy news "reports" of an escaped monster destroying the city. They had graphiti on the walls and gum and gunk like you'd find in the real NY subway. You walked past vendors and "shops" selling newspapers and magazines and got to peek into store fronts and windows. It was just all done with such extraordinary level of detail, it was a peice of art. There's some photos I found here.

The ride itself was silly and campy, with you "evacuating" the city in a cable car/tram type thing, high above the city and Kong narrowly missing you, and your daring escape as he swipes at the car and you watch the fight against him. I don't remember too terribly much as there wasn't a lot to comment about it, but it was fun. (Though, not worth two hours in line kinda fun). I remember another time I went, there was literally no line at all, so when we got off, we ran back in and ran through the switchback line and right back to the line with about a two minute wait. When you got off the ride, you could get your photo taken with Kong, but you had to pay for it and I never got a chance to. (Either the folks didn't want to shell out the $12.95 or whatever, or I didn't have it) At one point, I got an annual pass (one of those pay one day, get a year for $20 more thing) and I went even when I didn't have cash, just to go do something.

So...just a weird memory and bit of sorrow over a not-that-amazing-but-still-a-major-staple ride. While looking for more photos to share with people who never got to ride it, I found a few more good links, so here they are:
-- Kongfrontation - Pics, ride details, more. Some great stuff here.
-- Blast from the past: 78 Kong ride photos Woah.
-- Kongfrontation pics and video of the line and ride

Sad when things you remember go away and you know you'll never see it again. Doesn't matter if it's a silly ride or not, it's kinda a reminder of how things always change - whether you want them to or not.

Blah and more blah. My stomach's been in a constant state of pain since Friday. It's been bad in all directions - way more detail then I need to get into. Suffice to say, it's sucked. From not being able to eat things without being in pain, to aquainting myself with my restroom far more then I ever wanted to, it's been killing me. Ugh. I've also been missing out on pretty much everything since I've just been so out of it. I hate my damned stomach and the feeling is mutal - it definately hates me back.

*sigh*

Might head off to bed. Love's waiting for me to turn off the light and stop typing and would be a reason to stop feeling my stomach. More when I feel better (hopefully soon)
